My various adventures of a "Going Outside and Doing Things" nature, mostly in the great outdoors of Colorado. Hiking, playing with the dogs, rock hunting, abandoned houses, gardening... and probably more!

First week in October...

And it's officially cold. I'm sure this will seem pleasantly warm by comparison in a few weeks, but right now I am not okay with it! Obviously my hatred of cold weather means I live in the wrong state, though Colorado has been kind to me so far this year... sometimes it gets like this in September.

This does mean the end of the gardening season as well, which is kind of a shame. Our garden was a miserable failure this year, though... probably due to a combination of poor soil and a nasty hailstorm that made everything start over partway through the summer. We got ONE solitary tiny squash, a couple handfulls of beans, and some peppers. The tomatoes have mostly rotted on the vine, and the few that have the potential to survive will likely die tonight when it drops below freezing. Alas.

We are trying to bring the peppers and the rosemary in for the winter, and Alex repotted them for it today. Theoretically you can get peppers to produce over the winter if you keep them happy, and that would certainly be nice. Also attempting to root some cuttings from the tomatoes in the hopes of having better luck next year. And I'll see if I can get some basil to play nice inside, as well.

Considering the price of gas, it's looking like we might not be able to fit in a few more end-of-season hikes. :(
So it's probably most likely that it'll be some backdated posts that make their way here in the near future.
